Useful Things to Know

Accessing the Motherboard's BIOS - you're generally in trouble if you have to do this, but here's an invaluable chart that tells what keystrokes you need.

You may have to boot to Safe Mode in order to remove some viruses. Press the F8 key repeatedly in order to get to a boot menu.

Some websites and scumware attempt to trap you by hiding the "Close" button. Use Alt + F4 to exit.

Often malware will come with an uninstall icon. Clicking on the icon OR using the Windows Add/Remove control panel will result in the "uninstall" routine calling home - probably to attempt another installation.

You can safely run with both a hardware firewall on your router and a software firewall on your computer, but please DO NOT run 2 software firewalls at the same time. It might work just fine, but you're asking for trouble.

The icons that Windows associates with different file types are an accurate assessment of the type of file. (regardless of whether or not File Extensions are turned on)
