You reach the Outlook Options dialog box by clicking on Tools on the File Menu, and then clicking on Options.

The Preferences tab will be selected. Notice that each Outlook Item has an Options button. Notice also that there are more tabs available across the top that give access to yet more pages of options.

Turn on the Spell Checker!

  1. Click the Spelling tab
  2. Click the box next to Always check spelling before sending (unless it's already checked).
  3. You may check or uncheck the other boxes as desired.

Assigning Delegates

While you may give your permission from one to several people to interact in your behalf with any or all of your Outlook Items, it is most commonly done with your Calendar. A description of how to do this is included in the Calendar section of this web.

Defining your normal work week

Click on Calendar Options from the Preferences tab and the following dialog box will be displayed.

Selecting the days of your standard work week (by clicking in their associated boxes) and the Start time and End time of your work day will cause Outlook to display your Calendar differently and to make some assumptions when a variety of events will occur. You can still schedule appointments outside your normal work day - it's just that Outlook tries to make your life easier based upon these settings.

You should also click on the Add Holidays button and let Outlook fill in standard holidays for you (again, you may still schedule appointments that conflict with holidays).
